Since 1977 Redfern Legal Centre (RLC) has provided free legal advice and casework, built capacity in the community and legal profession through legal education and an effective volunteer program and engaged in policy and law reform work to achieve systemic change. As a leader in the social justice sector, RLC attracts the best people and partners to develop new models for addressing social inequities. The new CEO will harness these resources, and forge new partnerships to ensure people experiencing vulnerability have access to justice.

Working closely with the board and leading a team of 30 staff, the CEO is responsible for:

  • the overall direction and leadership of RLC,
  • organisational development and growth
  • partnerships, advocacy and external communications

An experienced leader, the new CEO will have:

  • excellent strategic planning, implementation and communication skills
  • a broad understanding of legal issues that impact people experiencing vulnerability, our community and areas of work, and the operation of the community legal sector
  • a successful track record in leading highly committed professionals in a fast moving environment
  • high level experience in policy development and analysis, and a demonstrated history of effective advocacy on legal, law reform, social policy and political campaigns
  • substantial knowledge of how the social justice sector works in practice
  • financial acumen, and a demonstrated understanding of different funding streams and opportunities

A strong applicant will also have legal qualifications, and previous work experience in the Australian community legal sector. The initial priorities for the role include implementing the next goals and outcomes within the Theory of Change and Strategic Plan 2020–2025.

This position is covered by the Redfern Legal Centre Enterprise Agreement 2018. The annual salary for this full-time position is currently between $135,956.79 to $146,964.63, plus 10.5% superannuation contributions, and salary packaging is available*. As the position is agreement-covered, RLC offers a 35 hour working week, time in lieu options and additional paid leave over the end of year closure of 2 weeks (inclusive of public holidays).
